Are you or your business in disagreement with an assessment notice from the government? Have you missed reporting income or a transaction on your current or previous tax return(s)? If so, we can help. We have significant experience in these matters. It is important that you deal with your disagreed assessment notice urgently, as time may expire for you to object to the assessment or negotiate with the government prior to the objection. Some of the services we offer in this area are as follows:
- Negotiating with the Canada Revenue Agency and other taxation authorities on a matter that you want to dispute. The government assessment and/or notice of reassessment is not always correct
- If negotiations do not provide a favourable outcome and/or we are dealing with a difficult/unknowledgeable government official, the next step would be to formally object to an assessment or reassessment, depending on the issue and dollar value involved, we may need to work with a tax lawyer in case you are required to go to tax court on the matter; and
- Filing voluntary disclosures under the Canada Revenue Agency Voluntary Disclosure Program in which you are required to fully disclose all unreported matters to the government. Under this program, you are generally required to pay the income tax and/or GST/HST that you were legally required to pay in the first place if the disclosure is accepted penalties will be waived and you may also be entitled to an interest charge reduction. Depending on the matter and how old it is, penalties and interest can exceed the taxes owing
